grammar rant: imply/infer
"Imply" and "infer" do not have the same meaning. The speaker implies; the listener infers.
Also, "imply" isn't just a fancy-shmancy word for "said". The definition is to indicate or suggest without being explicitly stated. If I remark to, say, Pat Robertson "Citing the Old Testament as proof that evolution is not a scientific fact suggests a lack of rational thought to me", I am implying that he's a moron. And unless his head is further up his arse than usual, he would infer my true meaning.
It's called a dictionary. Get it, use it, love it.
